Where they hard to make/design?

Yes. They were hard to make.

I occasionally reverse engineer 3d model formats, this requires programming knowledge. I wrote a max-script that opened files from the videogame Ninja Turtles smash-up. This is their origin.

I then chose an animation frame that suited what I wanted to do, stuck a plane in to represent a rooftop and put some lights around.
